A few Old Boys went for a run...

1996

Inspired to create our own running club, the inaugural club run out of DHS Old Boys Club on Gainsborough Drive takes place, and Oldies is born! Wednesdays will never be the same again.

... and so it begins.

1997

With the legendary Stan Cofey as the very first club chairman, our fledgling running club celebrates its first official year of Comrades participants and clocks up 17 finishers.

Growing from strength to strength...

1998

Another great year with 19 Comrades finishers and our very first female Comrades finisher.

... and the field gets serious.

1999

Another succesfull year with 18 Comrades finishers and 13 Two Oceans Ultra finishers. Wednesday club runs remain the stuff of legend.

Hello millennium... let's run.

2000

As we welcomed in Y2K we found more and more members joining and celebrated a whopping 53 Comrades finishers.

You'll never run alone.

2001

As interest and the reputation of the club grows from strength-to-strength, Oldies is now represented by no less than 37 Comrades finishers.

The glory years roll on...

2002

Many kilometres are racked up over this period, with as many refreshing post-run rewards (and fines). The Oldies "legend" grows while the club keeps chocking up medals, finishers and PBs.

A new era begins...

2010

What a year! World football graced our shores and in the midst of it all Oldies fielded a cracking 142 Comrades finishers.

Oldies never gets "old"...

2013

As we grew to a club of 170 members, 53 of them who finished the Comrades, Oldies is now one of SA's most beloved running clubs.

Once an Old Boy, always an Oldie.

2015

Membership grows to 244 with 82 Comrades finishers. Stevie Thornton is Chairman and Roger Westbrook is Club Captain.

Change is a-coming.

2019

Just before the world changes, Oldies makes a change of its own and moves from the original Old Boys Club to Crusaders Sports Club. At the same time getting home 77 Comrades finishers.

And... we're back.

2022

Normality resumes - kind of - Oldies kicks Covid to the curb and celebrates with 84 Comrades finishers, while Wednesdays resume in earnest.

The "gees" is a real thing...

2023

Another year, another 71 Comrades finishers and a whole lot of good times roll.

You'll never run alone...

2024

A slight changing of the guard with new committee appointments, but with that same Oldies spirit. 72 Comrades finishers.

Justin Fuller
Chairman

The Dark Horse

A "serious runner" for over 20 years and an even more serious post run, or "social athlete", Justin epitomises what it means to embrace the Oldies spirit. Whether injured or in peak "PB" condition, he is always there for Oldies from start-to-fines-to-finish.

Jamie Wardell
Captain

2 x Comrades
5 x Iron Man

The Fisherman

At aged 5 years and probably already 6'4" in height, Jamie's love for running began, and he hasn't stopped since. Marathons, Iron Man, Comrades, and of course all things "Oldies", Jamie is a "beast" and not afraid to move himself, and the club forward.

De Villiers Gouws
Vice Captain

2 x Comrades
1 x Ultra Trail

The Meneer

From only running when being chased to earning a back-to-back Comrades medal in 2024, "Div" knows how to overcome far more than Fields Hill and Polly Shorts. After kicking cancer to the curb in 2022, he is inspiration personified and shows us all how to love strong and run hard.

Chris Du Trevou
Treasurer

2 x Comrades

The Golfer

As the official Oldies "bean counter", solving complex riddles is part of Chris' everyday life. After overcoming the Comrades puzzle, one solution that always seems to evade Chris is how to balance his run-work-golf-beers lifestyle. He is now turning to AI to assist.

Lee-Anne Gow
Secretary

2 x Comrades
2 x Two Oceans

The Rock

Once an avid runner, always an Oldie. After countless marathons and multiple Comrades, Lee has unfortunately been sidelined due to injury but that doesn't stop her giving everything and more to her beloved club. As the unofficial "mom" of Oldies, she is the glue that us keeps us all honest and on track.

Vanessa Frylink
Safe Guarding & Time Trial

3 x Comrades
2 x Iron Man

The Socialite

It doesn't matter if it's a club run or a major qualifying race, "V-Dog's" infectious laugh and enthusiasm for life will permeate your surroundings and lift your spirit. In the sea, on a bike, but mostly on the road, to put it simply, "V" is what most dictionaries describe as "a full-on outdoor fanatic and hopeless social runner."

Francette Gouws
Cross Country

3:01 Marathon
1:27 Half

The Real Deal

Growing up next to the track with one foot on the start line and a keen eye on the finish, Francette was destined to be runner - at a time, even a pint sized shot putter. With a newly rekindled love for running and a 0:37min 10km PB that'll make most men envious, Oldies is all the more stronger when her laces are tied.

Stean Marais
Oldies 10km

1 x Comrades
2 x Ironman

The Planner

"Steam" began his running journey in 2017 and not long after had fully embraced the Oldies spirit. As the brains and brawn behind our beloved Oldies 10km, he can always be relied on to ensure that whatever happens "behind the scenes" translates to a super successful race.

Heath Potgieter
Events & Safety

3 x Comrades
1 x Ultra Trail

The Dependable

He's ever-reliable, ever-present and never shy to go the extra mile for any of his fellow club members. From Park Run to back-to-back Comrades, plus one more, in a few short years, Heath exudes pure Oldies gees and running stoke. Matched by few but the envy, and awe, of many.

Scott Edwards
Social Director & IT

3 x Comrades

The Capetonian

Once a social runner, now a 3-time consecutive Comrades finisher, we think it's safe to say Scotty has been bitten hard by the "bug" since joining Oldies in 2019. Now living in the Republic of Cape Town, he's flying the Oldies flag high and doing us proud as he navigates the mountain roads and trails.
